Description
AP Engineering & Consulting, Inc. (APEC) is seeking a motivated,
well-rounded Geotechnical Engineer for our Indianapolis based
office. APEC is a full-service geotechnical engineering,
construction materials testing, and environmental consulting firm.
APEC provides quality, cost-effective solutions while also focusing
on client commitment and satisfaction.
This is a Geotechnical Engineer and/or Senior Geotechnical Engineer
position that involves oversight and management of our geotechnical
department personnel including our construction inspection and
testing staff. He/she will work closely with other professionals
and the candidate should feel comfortable interacting with clients,
construction personnel, and sub-contractors as a professional
representative of APEC. Candidates are required to have a
professional engineering license (P.E.) and the ability to obtain
licensure in other states.
The successful candidate will work on challenging and diverse tasks
for projects related to construction, DOT, bridge, airport, dry
cleaning facilities, gas stations, industrial facilities, and
private commercial development for a variety of local clients as
well as Fortune 100/500 companies.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the
following:
- Build and maintain relationships with potential and existing
clients;
- Manage projects covering all aspects of geotechnical
engineering;
- Provide guidance and training for staff on work related to
geotechnical engineering projects;
- Assist and collaborate with all aspects of staff management
both in the office and in the field;
- Manage, train, and mentor younger staff;
- Technical document and proposal preparation and review;
- Contribute to the development of organization standard
operating procedures, specifications and guidelines;
- Travel to, and work performed at, various job site locations
throughout the region (
- Manage and provide recommendations for staff working in the
field on project sites to perform geotechnical investigations and
construction inspection/monitoring;
- Oversee construction activities including earthwork,
excavation, dewatering, pile installation, excavation support
installation, and load tests;
- Oversee subsurface investigations (e.g. infiltration tests,
drilling test borings, well installations, etc.);
- Oversee subcontractors performing services at project
locations;
- Perform geotechnical engineering analysis for infrastructure
and development projects such as foundation, retaining wall, and
pavement design;
- Participate in training events, project meetings and
engineering team meetings;
- Interpret geologic, hydrogeologic, and engineering
characteristics of the subsurface;
- Analyze and interpret laboratory results;
- Deliver processed data in an organized fashion, following data
management and APEC standards;
- Work on several projects at one time and maintain successful
client relations;
- Prepare proposals, letters, and technical reports for submittal
to regulatory agencies and/or clients; and
- Must be able to work in a team environment; individually; and
interact with other engineers, scientists, and administrative
support. Common office tasks involve sitting, standing, walking,
using a personal computer, and communicating verbally. Most work
for this position is conducted indoors with occasional project site
visits. Lifting up to 50 pounds and maneuvering outdoors may be
necessary at times. Must have good driving record to be able to
drive company vehicles to project sites and meetings with clients.
Some travel for field work or project oversight may be necessary,
depending on client needs or requirements.

Full-time position qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical
Engineering),
- Related Professional Experience in Geotechnical
Engineering,
- Professional Engineer License (P.E.),
- Knowledge of commonly used computer software (Word, Excel,
Outlook) expected,
- Excellent writing and communication skills,
- Familiarization with various AASHTO and ASTM Standards,
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, soil logging, or other
engineering programs, and
- Willingness to collaborate with other technical staff.
